Blockchain investigator, ZachXBT, received a $10,000 donation from a controversial figure and chose to donate it to charity.

ZachXBT Donates Dirty MoneyEarlier today, ZachXBT made a post highlighting influencers involved in pump-and-dump schemes, where they hype up cryptocurrencies they own and sell them as soon as there’s a spike in interest. This post included screenshots of influencers promoting a specific token, which I won’t name here.

In response to this post, a user commented that they had donated $10,000 to ZachXBT, suggesting he use it for a dinner with his parents and thanking him for his work. The user provided a link to the Etherscan transaction page as proof.

ZachXBT expressed his gratitude in a reply. However, other users noted that the donor was actually implicated in promoting the same token ZachXBT criticized in his original post, and this individual has nearly 500,000 followers.

Due to blockchain’s nature, where one cannot typically block incoming transactions (similar to email spam), ZachXBT, like many in the crypto/NFT space, couldn’t prevent the receipt of these funds. Such unsolicited transactions are common, often involving scam NFTs and tokens aimed at gaining illegitimate credibility or leading recipients to phishing sites with malicious smart contracts.

Consequently, after acknowledging the donor’s controversial background, ZachXBT chose to donate the $10,000 to the charity Save The Children through The Giving Block.

Wild, huh? I’m interested to know what you think over on my Medium post.
